A steel factory in Kempton Park
Structures 2000 started operations in May 1999. We have made the same thing ever since: affordable portal frame steel structures, designed by a civil engineer and fabricated with precision at our own factory in Spartan.

What we do
Designed by a civil engineer and fabricated with pride and precision, our products are steel assemblies used in the construction industry — from farm sheds to church halls, shops and warehouses, to mention only the common ones.
We hold designs for nine standard sizes, from 6 × 10 × 2.4m up to 30 × 48 × 6.0m, and we custom-manufacture anything outside that range. Standard structures are supplied with galvanised IBR profile roof sheeting, a 10° roof pitch and every fastener including the foundation bolts.
What we have never done is broker other people's steel. Manufacturing happens at our well-equipped Spartan factory, and our in-house erection team makes sure a precision-manufactured structure is professionally erected. The company that made it is the company that puts it up.
Alongside the standard range we take on work to other people's drawings: a monorail personnel carrier for an inclined shaft into a platinum mine, a house near Irene built to an architect's design, Corten-clad architectural steelwork, a pergola over a pool. If you arrive with a drawing, we will quote to it.
How it works
From enquiry to erected.
- You tell us the use and the size
- Span, length and eaves height if you know them. If not, describe what has to fit inside and we will work them out with you.
- We quote against the real requirement
- Including cladding, doors and any options, because those are what separate two structures of identical floor area by a factor of three.
- A civil engineer designs it
- Every structure. The engineer's drawing and certificate is supplied on request for your building plan submission.
- We fabricate it in Spartan
- Cut, drilled and assembled in our own factory. On anything unusual heading for export we trial-assemble it in our yard first.
- We deliver, and usually erect
- Throughout South Africa with our own erection team. Export and remote jobs go delivery-only, flat-packed with every fastener and foundation bolt.
Where it goes
Further than you'd think.
South Africa is our market — the whole of it. We deliver and erect in every province, and the factory being in Kempton Park changes the transport cost, not whether we will travel. A clad 20 × 30m structure near Hermanus and a cover over a container yard, both in the Western Cape, are about as far from Spartan as the country goes.
Since 1999 we have also distributed structures to most African countries, to several Indian Ocean islands, and as far as Curaçao and Suriname.
A product store for a ruby mine in Mozambique. Football stands, one trial-erected in our own yard before it shipped. A structure sent to cover a building damaged during the bush war. A skylight for a house in the DRC, made and transported fully assembled.
Export orders are fabricated complete here and shipped flat-packed with all fasteners and foundation bolts, so no fabrication capability is needed on site — only assembly.

- Every structure is designed by a civil engineer. An engineer's drawing and certificate is supplied on request.

- We deliver and erect throughout South Africa using our in-house erection team, or supply delivery-only for export and owner-erected jobs.
- Custom sizes
- The nine sizes below are the sizes we hold designs for. We custom-manufacture any size to suit the site.
