Steel structures in the Western Cape

The factory is in Gauteng, not here — we would rather say that plainly than imply a depot in Cape Town. What we do have in the Western Cape is completed work: a standard 20 × 30m clad structure near Hermanus, and a structure erected over a row of shipping containers to turn a container yard into covered working space.

Locally

A Western Cape site changes the engineering, not just the journey. The design wind load is higher than on the Highveld, and the engineer accounts for that in the frame rather than shipping a Gauteng design further south. The corrosion environment is more aggressive too, which is worth settling at specification stage rather than after the first winter. Both of those are decisions made before anything is cut, which is exactly when distance from the factory stops mattering.

Everything is fabricated, drilled and checked in Spartan before it ships, so nothing needs a fabrication shop near the site. From there you have a choice: our own erection team travels, or we supply the structure delivered only — flat-packed with every fastener and foundation bolt — for a local team to erect. Delivery is quoted with the structure, per site, from the address.

Why us, here

What we can actually claim here.

Structures standing in the province
A 20 × 30m clad structure near Hermanus, and a steel overbuild across a row of containers. Both are in the projects section, with photographs.
Designed for the site's wind load
Coastal and exposed sites carry a higher design wind load. Every structure is designed by a civil engineer for where it is going, not adapted from an inland frame.
Corrosion settled at specification stage
Roof sheeting is galvanised IBR as standard. On a coastal site the corrosion environment is worth discussing before fabrication, when it is still a specification decision.
Erected by our team, or supplied as a kit
Our in-house erection team travels. Where you would rather use a local team, the structure ships complete — every fastener and foundation bolt included — and bolts together to the drawing.
Plan-approval ready
Approved building plans are required before construction commences. We supply the engineer's drawing and certificate for your submission — City of Cape Town, Overstrand, or whichever municipality the site falls under.

Sizes

Nine standard sizes.

Included

What comes as standard.

Roof sheeting
Galvanised IBR profile sheeting as standard, on a 10° roof pitch.
Fasteners
All fasteners included, down to the foundation bolts — nothing to source separately.
Design
Every structure is designed by a civil engineer. An engineer's drawing and certificate is supplied on request.
Fabrication
Manufactured in our own Spartan factory in Kempton Park, not subcontracted out.
Delivery & erection
We deliver and erect throughout South Africa using our in-house erection team, or supply delivery-only for export and owner-erected jobs.
Custom sizes
The nine sizes below are the sizes we hold designs for. We custom-manufacture any size to suit the site.

We also have pages for Kempton Park and Gauteng. We deliver and erect in all nine provinces — how that works for a site anywhere in South Africa — and export across southern Africa. More about us.
